Riding high on the success of his latest film Varisu, Thalapathy Vijay is set to reunite with Master director Lokesh Kanagaraj for his 67th project.

The hit actor-director duo as well as music composer Anirudh Ravichander are reuniting for the film, which has been tentatively titled Thalapathy 67.

Lokesh, who is known for helming action blockbusters like Kaithi and Vikram, posted a picture of him with Vijay on Twitter to announce the news. “Good evening guys! More than happy to join hands with @actorvijay na once again ❤️ 🔥#Thalapathy67 🤜🏻🤛🏻,” he wrote.

The film will be produced by S.S. Lalit Kumar of 7 Screen Studio and co-produced by Jagadish Palanisamy. Other technicians on the board include DOP Manoj Paramahamsa, editor Philomin Raj and choreographer Dinesh. Other cast members are set to be announced soon.

7 Screen Studio also took to Twitter to announce the news along with an introduction of the technical team and a first poster. “The one & the only brand #Thalapathy67, is proudly presented by @7screenstudio 🔥 We are excited in officially bringing you the announcement of our most prestigious project ♥️ We are delighted to collaborate with #Thalapathy @actorvijay sir, for the third time. @Dir_Lokesh,” it posted.

The film’s shooting commenced earlier this month. Early reports suggest that the film could have a Deepavali release later this year.

There is strong speculation on whether Thalapathy 67 would be part of the director’s famed Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) that includes Kaithi and Vikram.

2021’s Master was a standalone action film which also featured Vijay Sethupathi, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Malavika Mohanan, Andrea Jeremiah, Arjun Das and Gouri G. Kishan. It was one of Tamil cinema’s biggest theatrical hits post-pandemic.
