Sunny Deol-starrer Border 2 to hit cinemas on Republic Day 2026

The sequel to J.P. Dutta’s 1997 war film was announced on June 13 to mark the original film’s 27th anniversary

Border 2, starring Sunny Deol, will hit cinemas on January 23, 2026, announced the makers in a social media post on Friday.

The announcement came just a day after the sequel to the 1997 war movie was announced. The upcoming movie will be helmed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta and Nidhi Dutta. The cast of the new movie is yet to be disclosed.

“Release Date announced! See you in Theatres 26th JANUARY 2026,” Nidhi Dutta, producer at J.P. Films, wrote on X, having quoted a social media user.

Helmed by J.P. Dutta, Border was released on June 13, 1997. Marking its 27th anniversary, the film’s lead actor Sunny Deol announced the sequel on Thursday. He shared a video featuring his voiceover, which said: “Twenty-seven years ago, a soldier promised he would return. To fulfill that promise, to salute the soil of India, he is coming.”

“Ek fauji apne 27 saal purane waade ko pura karne, aa raha hai phirse. India’s biggest war film, #Border2,” he captioned the video.

Set against the backdrop of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, Border depicts the Battle of Longewala. It features a star-studded cast including Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry, Puneet Issar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Tabu, Rakhee, Pooja Bhatt, and Sharbani Mukherjee.

Sunny Deol was last seen in Anil Sharma’s Gadar 2 alongside Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma and Simrat Kaur. A sequel to the 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, the film scripted history by amassing Rs 691 crore gross at the global box office.
