Three Bengali films —Soukarya Ghoshal’s Bhootpori, Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s Aamar Boss and Saurav Palodhi’s Onko Ki Kothin— have made it to the list of 25 feature films that will be screened under the Indian Panorama section of the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), set to be held in Goa from November 20 to 28.
Bhootpori, directed by Soukarya Ghoshal, has already garnered acclaim for its unique blend of horror and comedy, capturing audiences with an engaging storyline that stands out in a genre often limited to jump scares and suspense. Featuring renowned actors Jaya Ahsan, Ritwick Chakraborty, and Sudipta Chakraborty, the film has resonated with viewers for its inventive screenplay, which has already been honoured with an award at the 14th Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival.
Ghoshal took to social media to express his happiness at Bhootpori’s selection for IFFI. “Good news for Bengali cinema. Three Bengali films have secured their place among 20 Indian films to be screened at IFFI,” he wrote.
Surinder Films, the producers of Bhootpori also shared their excitement at the development. “Showered with everyone’s love, Soukarya Ghoshal-directed Bhootpori has been selected for the Indian Panorama (Best Feature Film) section of the 55th International Film Festival of India,” the production banner wrote on Instagram.
Also set to premiere at IFFI is Saurav Palodhi’s Onko Ki Kothin, starring Parno Mittra and Riddhiman Banerjee. “We are grateful,” Palodhi posted on Facebook.
In addition to Bhootpori and Onko Ki Kothin, Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s Aamar Boss is also selected for screening at IFFI. The film marks the return of actress Rakhee Gulzar to the screen after a 20-year hiatus.
