Biographical war drama Amaran has become actor Sivakarthikeyan's highest-grossing film of all time with a collection of over Rs 300 crore worldwide in 19 days, according to latest trade reports. Also starring Sai Pallavi, the movie hit theatres on October 31 as a Diwali release.
Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, Amaran is the eighth Tamil film of all time to breach the Rs 300-crore milestone at the global box office. The other members of the Rs 300-crore club are Shankar’s 2.0, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Leo and Vikram, Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer, Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 and Part 2 and Venkat Prabhu’s The Greatest of All Time.
Jointly produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Sony Pictures Films India, Amaran is based on a chapter from the book series India’s Most Fearless by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh. The film depicts the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, celebrating the heroics of India’s armed forces.
According to industry data-tracking portal Sacnilk, Amaran collected Rs 114.85 crore nett in the first week, followed by Rs 57.25 crore nett in Week 2. The third week began with a collection of Rs 3.6 crore nett on third Friday, followed by Rs 6.15 crore nett and Rs 8 crore nett on third Saturday and third Sunday, respectively.
On the third Monday, Amaran earned Rs 2.50 crore nett. With an additional Rs 2.10 crore on third Tuesday, the film’s domestic collection stands at Rs 194.20 crore nett.
Alongside Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, Amaran features an ensemble cast including Bhuvan Arora, Rahul Bose, Suresh Chakravrthy, Shreekumar and Shyam Mohan.
