Shilpa Shetty plays a housewife who embarks on a journey of self-discovery to get away from her mundane routine in Sonal Joshi’s slice-of-life film Sukhee, the 48-year-old actress revealed during a lighthearted chat with her co-star Kusha Kapila in a promo video released on Monday.
T-series shared the one-minute-44-second-long video on YouTube, mentioning that the film will hit cinemas on September 22. “Sukhee aur friends ke reunion mein aane ke liye taiyyar ho jaiye! (Get ready for Sukhee’s reunion with her friends!) #Sukhee releases on 22nd September only in theatres,” it wrote alongside the video.
The clip begins with Kusha asking the viewers whether they are present to watch the teaser of the film. Soon, Shilpa cuts in and says “Bas kar, Dukhee (that’s enough, Dukhee)” with a fun play on the film’s title and protagonist Sukhee.
Both Shilpa and Kusha talk about how housewives help their children with their daily homework, fold ironed clothes and make tea for everyone, highlighting how they sacrifice their own freedom to serve their family members. The duo also talk about how housewives feel guilty about spending time with their old friends, pursuing their hobbies and looking after themselves.
Sukhee, a lighthearted take on a woman’s self-discovery, centres around 38-year-old Punjabi housewife Sukhpreet 'Sukhee' Kalra. Fed up with her mundane life, Sukhee goes to Delhi to attend her school reunion. The journey rekindles her zest for life, helping her to see herself as a woman again as it emancipates her from the boxed identities of a wife and a mother.
“Sukhee toh sirf naam hain, general state of mind toh dukhee hai,” said Shilpa while describing her character in the teaser.
