Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan emerged as the top choice for movie-goers on National Cinema Day, collecting around Rs 5.5 crore on its sixth Friday in theatres, according to trade reports.
Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s comedy drama Fukrey 3 ran a close second to the Atlee-helmed actioner, with a collection of Rs 5.25 crore nett. Akshay Kumar’s Mission Raniganj gathered approximately Rs 4.75 crore nett on the day.
Jawan emerged as the top pick in the three major national cinema chains — PVR-INOX and Cinepolis — while Fukrey 3 sold more tickets in other national chains and single screen theatres. Jawan raked in Rs 3.1 crore nett at PVR-Inox and Cinepolis, while Fukrey 3 collected Rs 2.8 crore nett. Mission Raniganj earned around Rs 2.60 crore nett at these cinemas.
In cinema chains like MovieMax and Rajhans, Fukrey 3 emerged as the audience's preferred choice, followed by Jawan and Mission Raniganj.
Jawan, which features Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in important roles, has amassed around Rs 635 crore nett in India in just 38 days, out of which Rs 575 crore nett came from the Hindi version and Rs 60 crore nett from the Tamil and Telugu versions.
Fukrey 3 — starring Varun Sharma, Pulkit Samrat, Pankaj Tripathi, Richa Chadha and Manjot Singh — has accumulated Rs 86.54 crore nett in 16 days, beating the lifetime collections of its predecessor Fukrey Returns, which had earned Rs 80 crore nett in India.
Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar-starrer Mission Raniganj managed to earn Rs 22.75 crore nett at the end of its eighth day in cinemas. Bhumi Pednekar-starrer Thank You For Coming, which released alongside Mission Raniganj, earned Rs 0.75 crore nett on National Cinema Day, taking the film’s collection to Rs 5.70 crore nett so far.
Ratna Pathak Shah and Dia Mirza-starrer Dhak Dhak, which released in cinemas on October 13, failed to draw audiences and registered an opening day collection of Rs 0.40 crore nett.
