Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has emerged as the most-watched Indian series on Netflix in the first week of launch, the streamer announced on Wednesday.

“Heeramandi ki chamak hai sabse alag! Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, now streaming only on Netflix,” Netflix wrote alongside a poster of the period-drama series.

Fans flooded the comments section with their love for the series. “It's been just one week?! I've already rewatched it twice,” one of them wrote. “I watched it for the 8th time today , I get a daily dose,” another fan commented.

Netflix also announced that the web series is currently trending at the No. 2 position globally in 43 countries including India, Canada, France, United Kingdom and New Zealand. “Mallikajaan ka sikka sirf Heeramandi mein nahi, poori duniya mein chal raha hai! Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaaar is trending globally in 43 countries,” the streamer wrote alongside a video carrying clips from the series.

Starring Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal and Sanjeeda Shaikh, Heeramandi follows the stories of love, passion, freedom and betrayal experienced by courtesans living in Lahore’s oldest red-light district. Set against the backdrop of British-ruled India, the web series shows how the courtesans found themselves entangled in a constant power struggle with the anti-colonial movement on the rise.

Bhansali’s maiden web series also marks Fardeen Khan’s comeback to the world of acting after a hiatus of 14 years. Apart from him, Taha Shah Badussha, Shekhar and Adhyayan Suman also play key roles in the web series.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar premiered on Netflix on May 1.
