David Dhawan’s iconic family-comedy Biwi No. 1 is set to return to cinemas on November 29, actor-producer Jackky Bhagnani announced on Thursday, unveiling the official trailer for the re-release.
“It’s official! The Biwi No. 1 trailer is OUT now! Get ready for David Dhawan’s biggest entertainer to take over the screen once again,” Bhagnani wrote on social media.
Originally released in 1999, Biwi No. 1 starred Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Tabu, and Sushmita Sen. It became an immediate box-office success, captivating audiences with its humorous take on marital relationships and infidelity.
A remake of the Tamil film Sathi Leelavathi (1995), Biwi No. 1 revolves around a love triangle involving a flawed-yet-charming protagonist, played by Salman Khan, and his loyal wife, portrayed by Karisma Kapoor. Sushmita Sen played the third wheel in the relationship.
Upon its initial release, Biwi No. 1 went on to become a massive commercial success, grossing Rs 52.80 crore worldwide and securing its position as the second highest-grossing Hindi film of 1999.
Biwi No. 1 joins the growing list of Hindi films re-releasing on the big screen this year. From Shah Rukh Khan’s Veer Zaara to Ranbir Kapoor’s Rockstar, a slew of Bollywood movies from the 1990s and 2000s returned to cinemas in 2024 to widespread acclaim.
Nikkhil Advani’s Kal Ho Naa Ho and Subhas Ghai’s Pardes were the latest re-releases to hit theatres last week. Rakesh Roshan’s Karan Arjun is slated to return to the big screen on November 22.
