Russia’s highest-grossing film The Peasant to be screened at the Russian Film Festival in Mumbai

The Russian Film Festival will be held at the Cinepolis Andheri Cinema in Mumbai from November 17th to 20th.

The Peasant or Kholop, the highest-grossing Russian comedy film till date, will be screened in India during the Russian Film Festival, to be held at Cinepolis Andheri Cinema in Mumbai from November 17 to 20.

The film, directed by Klim Shipenko, tells the story of a wealthy businessman’s attempts at reforming his egotistic son, Grisha. In 2021, the rights to the film were sold to several countries, including India and China. According to reports, India is likely to have its own version of the film soon.

Besides The Peasant, viewers in India will get to watch some of the most impressive Russian movies created over the past few years. The films will be shown at the festival free of cost, with subtitles in Hindi and English. The solo animated film from the lineup, Fixies vs Crabots, will be dubbed in English with subtitles in Hindi.

Last year, a three-week-long Russian Film Festival, held online, attracted almost 7,00,000 viewers, according to the organisers.

Another comedy film in the line-up for the Russian Film Festival is Young Man, directed by Alexandr Fomin. The 2022 film tells the story of an adventurous 30-year-old Vanya who gets involved in a scam and pretends to be a high school student to win a contest worth millions of rubles.

Viewers will also get to see the family adventure drama Palma, directed by Aleksandr Domogarov Jr. The film is based on true events surrounding the friendship between a boy and a dog named Palma.

The ballet drama The Bolshoi, a story about a young ballerina’s thorny path to success, will also be screened at the festival.

The Russian Film Festival shows are organised by ROSKINO with the support of the Russian Ministry of Culture. “India is an important partner for Russia in terms of cultural interaction. Indian film festivals are held annually in Moscow and cultural exchanges are carried out in other directions. We hope to expand the presence of Russian films in India and the Russian Film Festival is a good opportunity to introduce local viewers to our new movies in various genres,” the general director of ROSKINO, Inna Shalyto said.
