Amazon Prime Video is gearing up for a sequel to Red, White & Royal Blue, the streaming platform announced on Friday.
Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez headlined the first season coming-of-age romance, which dropped on the platform in 2023.
Adapted from Casey McQuiston’s bestselling novel of the same name, Red, White & Royal Blue revolves around the love story between Alex Claremont-Diaz (played by Perez), the son of the President of the United States, and Prince Henry (played by Nicholas Galitzine), a member of the British royal family.
“It’s official, a Red, White & Royal Blue sequel is in the works. ,” the official handle of Prime Video wrote on X alongside a poster depicting a cake with the flags of the US and UK pinned on it. A candle shaped like the numerical 2 is also placed atop the cake.
The poster is a throwback to a pivotal scene from Red, White & Royal Blue, where Prince Harry and Alex crash-landed on a gigantic cake at a royal wedding.
According to US entertainment magazine The Hollywood Reporter, Matthew López, who worked on the screenplay for the first instalment, will be back in the writer’s seat, collaborating with McQuiston. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Schechter Films are set to return as producers, along with Michael McGrath and López, while McQuiston will serve as an executive producer.
Specific plot details for the upcoming sequel have not yet been disclosed.
