Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden's crackling onscreen chemistry is evident even in gritty action sequences in Citadel as the lead actors live up to co-actor Stanley Tucci’s ‘hot stuff’ quip in the recently released Prime Video series.
Created by Josh Appelbaum, Bryan Oh and David Weil, Citadel follows the lives of the two spies — Nadia Sinh (Priyanka) and Mason Kane (Madden) — along with their tech-genius co-worker Bernard (Tucci) who belong to a global spy agency. After a spy from the organisation sells out the agency, a crime syndicate called Manticore takes over. Top agents Nadia and Mason lose their memories after a train mission goes wrong. What transpires eight years later makes up the plot of the six-episode web series.
The Prime video show sees Priyanka in her best badass avatar as she combines her acting and action skills to perfection, breathing life into the character of Nadia who can wipe you out in a moment. Madden’s Mason Kane is just as relentless. Together, they make for a killer duo that communicate through action moves and work seamlessly. The beginning of the first episode, which takes place inside a train, is enough to give an insight into the relationship between the two as they take out one enemy after another without breaking a sweat. Most importantly, they are ready to take a bullet for each other without a second thought.
Priyanka’s Nadia is bound to remind you of her Don character Roma, although her Citadel avatar is even better at performing sleek action. Madden’s Mason is a cheekier and more confident version of David Budd from the BBC One series Bodyguard sans the Scottish accent.
Priyanka and Richard have shared screen space for the first time in Citadel. They have been travelling around the globe for promotions that started in Mumbai. Their latest stop on the promotional tour was in Los Angeles, California.
The first two episodes of Citadel, released on April 28, are currently streaming on Prime Video. The next four episodes will be released every week on Friday till May 26. The global versions of Citadel are currently in the works, with Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu roped in for the Indian version.
