The makers of Ponniyin Selvan (PS) released today a behind-the-scenes video in which actors Karthi, Jayram and Jayam Ravi are seen recapitulating the events of PS1 and discussing the plot details of its upcoming sequel, PS2, both helmed by Mani Ratnam.

In the one-minute-three-second-long video titled ‘PS2 - THE CHOLAS ARE BACK’, we see Karthi, Jayram, Jayam Ravi and Vikram tease what the viewers can expect from the second instalment of Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus.

In the video, Karthi, who plays Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan in PS1, fuelled the anticipation around the release by hinting at its massive scale. “You will witness something you have not seen before,” he said.

Jayram Ravi and Vikram gave some insights into their characters, while Ravi, who plays the titular role, sheepishly suggested that his character might be dead after facing an attack towards the end of PS1. Vikram also said that the audiences will get a better understanding of the “love story that took a villainous turn”.

PS1 became a blockbuster, minting over Rs 500 crore globally. The ensemble cast of the film also includes Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, R. Parthiban and Lal. The two-part historical epic is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel, Ponniyin Selvan, which centres around the power struggles and internal conflicts of the Chola dynasty.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 will release in cinemas on April 28.
