With MCU’s upcoming film The Fantastic Four, the creators are set to step into the “essence of the comic book and the original Marvel family”, actor Pedro Pascal said at the recently held San Diego Comic-Con.

Directed by WandaVision filmmaker Matt Shakman, Pascal plays Mister Fantastic in the sci-fi film, also starring Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn as members of the superhero team.

“Meet The Fantastic 4️! Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps begins filming today. Only in theaters July 25, 2025,” the official Instagram page of Marvel wrote alongside a video featuring the actors.

Pascal's face lit up when he jokingly said that the lead cast members are the “most exciting” part of the upcoming film. Kirby cut in and said with a laugh, “We’ll say, the 1960s is pretty cool.”

For director Shakman, the family of superheroes in the film is the most exciting aspect. “I mean, this is Marvel’s first family. We have four amazing actors. They’ve bonded. They are a family already,” he said.

“Pedro is one of the best actors I’ve ever witnessed and worked with. So, who could possibly be better to lead this movie,” Kirby, who plays Sue Storm (Invisible Woman) in the film, said at the event. In his response, Pascal, who portrays Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), hilariously said, “Vanessa Kirby is my assassin, she’s a killer.”

Pascal, known for his role in Game of Thrones, mentioned that the film will take fans to an “era where the comic was born”. While The Bear star Moss-Bachrach will essay the role of Ben Grimm (The Thing) in the film, Quinn, who played Eddie Munson in Stranger Things Season 4, will play Johnny Storm (The Human Torch).

The Fantastic Four characters were created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby in the 1961 comic Fantastic Four No. 1. It follows the story of four astronauts who gained superpowers due to an exposure to cosmic rays during a scientific mission in outer space.

Last week, Pascal dropped pictures with Kirby, Moss-Bachrach and Quinn as the upcoming Marvel movie went on floors. “Our first mission,” the 49-year-old actor wrote alongside the pictures posted on Instagram.

Directed by Shakman from a script by Josh Friedman, The Fantastic Four is slated to hit theatres on July 25, 2025.
