The Spengler family returns to New York to team up with the original Ghostbusters and save the world from a second Ice Age in the trailer of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, dropped by the makers on Tuesday.

The two-minute-39-second-long trailer introduces a set of new characters to those from the original 1984 movie starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts. It all starts when Paul Rudd’s Grooberson and the Spengler family return to New York and discover a source of evil at the old headquarters of the Ghostbusters. The new and old fighters must now team up to thwart the threat. We also get a glimpse of the evil “Death Chill”, which can command an army of ghosts and freeze the entire world with its breath.

Combining high-octane action and hilarious moments, the trailer highlights the comedic relief brought about by Rudd’s jumpsuit-clad Mr Grooberson, who acts as Phoebe’s science teacher. The iconic quartet of Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis and Hudson from the original 1984 cast played scientists who left their jobs to start an organisation called Ghostbusters to fight ghosts lurking in New York.

Directed by Gil Kenan, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is slated to hit theatres worldwide on March 22. It will be a sequel to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which introduced the Spengler family — Carrie Coon’s single mother Callie and her children Trevor and Phoebe. After moving into a farmhouse inherited from her estranged father, they discovered their connection with the Ghostbusters.

While Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard reprises his role as Trevor Spengler, Mckenna Grace returns as his sister Phoebe in the new movie.
