The first trailer for Robert Eggers’ remake of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 classic Nosferatu has been released, offering a glimpse into the gothic horror and the impending terror the film promises to deliver.
Announced in 2015, Nosferatu will be the third adaptation of the classic vampire tale, following Murnau’s silent film and Werner Herzog’s 1979 remake.
“He is coming. NOSFERATU. A Robert Eggers picture. Only in theaters this Christmas,” the makers wrote alongside the trailer on the official handle of the film on X on Monday.
This one-minute-39-second trailer showcases Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hutter, a character tormented by dark forces, while Bill Skarsgård takes on the role of obsessed vampire Count Orlok whose menacing presence looms large over the other characters who seem unable to escape the nightmarish visions, sinister forces and swarms of rats that plague them.
According to IMDb, Nosferatu is described as “a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake”. The star-studded cast of the film includes Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, William Defoe, Emma Corrin, Simon McBurney, and Ralph Ineson.
Written and directed by Robert Eggers, known for his previous works The Witch and The Lighthouse, Nosferatu is set to hit US theaters on December 25.
