Indrasis Acharya’s film Niharika, which had its world premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival, has been selected for the prestigious 27th International Film Festival of Kerala.
The film stars Shilajit Mazumdar, Anuradha Mukherjee, Anindya Sengupta, Mallika Mazumdar, Priyanka Guha, Rajeswari Paul, Sashi Guha, Juin Bagchi, Amit Chakraborty, Indira Mukherjee, Moloy Rakhhit, Prabal Mukherjee and Srabani Roy.
“It’s a story of the belief in love without any inhibition,” says Indrasis, whose critically acclaimed film Pupa was about exploring life towards new horizons without looking back. “In our journey, there were financial and resource crises but finally we triumphed against all odds and we made Niharika. I am indebted to all my cast and crew. It’s great that Bengali films are being noticed and invited to different places around the world. The premiere went off really well, no one looked at their mobile phones, no one stepped out. Eighty per cent of the audience was non-Indian, and we had a beautiful Q and A with festival director Mat Kesting,” says Indrasis. Also, Niharika has been selected for the sixth Hanoi International Film Festival, where it will compete with 11 other films.
