The New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC), the oldest critics group in the US, voted Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon as the Best Film of 2023 on Friday (IST).
The Apple Original Films production also earned Lily Gladstone the Best Actress accolade for her portrayal of Mollie Burkhart in the movie, which also stars Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. Franz Rogowski took home the Best Actor award for his performance in Ira Sachs’s Passages.
The Best Director award, however, went to Christopher Nolan for his Oppenheimer, while The Best International Film award went to Anatomy of a Fall, which had also won the Palme d’Or winner at the 76th annual Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
In the Best Animated Film category, Hayao Miyazaki's The Boy and the Heron took home the accolade. Celine Song’s Past Lives, previously honoured at the Gotham Awards, continued its winning streak by being named Best First Film by the NYFCC.
Charles Melton emerged victorious in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in Todd Haynes’s Netflix film May December.
Best Supporting Actress honours went to Da’Vine Joy Randolph for her performance in The Holdovers.
The NYFCC is set to celebrate its annual Gala Awards dinner on January 3 at Tao Downtown, where the winners and other luminaries from the film industry will gather for an evening of recognition and celebration.
