A new 10-episode animated Batman series from Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves will premiere on Amazon Prime Video in August, the streamer announced on Thursday, sharing first-look images of some of the fan-favourite characters.
Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Commissioner Jim Gordon and Clayface, apart from Batman, feature in the stills released from the series titled Batman: Caped Crusader.
“Gotham City nights are on the way. Batman: Caped Crusader, a new series from Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves, arrives August 1,” Prime Video wrote on Instagram.
“After a family tragedy, socialite Bruce Wayne transforms into The Batman, where his crusade for justice spawns unforeseen ramifications,” reads the plot synopsis of the series on IMDb.
Based on the DC character, Batman: Caped Crusader is written by Greg Rucka, Ed Brubaker and Bob Kane. It is produced by Warner Bros. Animation, 6th & Idaho and Bad Robot Productions, while J.J. Abrams, Ed Brubaker, Matt Reeves, Sam Register, and Bruce Timm serve as the executive producers of the series.
Batman: Caped Crusader will catch up after the events of the Emmy-winning Batman: The Animated Series, which was co-created by Bruce Timm along with Bob Kane, Bill Finger and others. It had 85 episodes and aired on Fox channel from 1992 to 1995.
The upcoming animated series was previously slated to release on Max. After it was scrapped last year, Prime Video announced the production of a two-season series.
