Netflix’s teen romance drama XO, Kitty has begun production for its second season, the streamer announced on Thursday.
“XO, KITTY S2 💗 NOW IN PRODUCTION. KISS roll call,” Netflix wrote on X (formerly Twitter) alongside a video featuring all the stars of the show.
The video begins with Anna Cathcart’s Kitty and Sang Heon Lee’s Min Ho sporting casual outfits and reading their scripts in a classroom. Suddenly, Heon Lee gets distracted by something outside the classroom. He diverts Cathcart’s attention to the garden and both of them run outside with excitement.
To their surprise, their fellow classmates — Choi Min-young’s Dae-heon Kim, Gia Kim’s Yuri Han, Regan Aliyah’s Juliana, Jocelyn Shelfo’s Madison and Anthony Keyvan’s Quincy — wait for them outside. Heon Lee and Cathcart’s outfits get changed into their Korean Independent School of Seoul uniforms as they reunite with their team under an overcast sky.
In addition to the series regulars, Audrey Huynh, Sasha Bhasin and Joshua Lee will be joining the returning cast in key roles. Huynh will play Stella, while Bhasin will portray Praveena and Lee will portray the role of Jin.
The series, which follows Kitty who transfers to a South Korean university to surprise her long-distance boyfriend, accumulated 72.1 million hours of viewing within the first week of season one’s premiere on May 18 last year and appeared in the Top 10 list for 90 countries.
Cathcart told Netflix Tudum in a statement that her character still needs a lot of development. Her experiences at her Korean university changes her perception about love. “Over Season 1, Kitty realises love can flourish in countless disparate ways — and things are not always so simple,” she said.
“To see her world expand is a huge, huge difference and will be a really fun thing to follow,” she added.
Backed by Awesomeness Studios, XO, Kitty is a spin-off series of Jenny Han’s To All the Boys book trilogy. Jessica O’Toole serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer of the show created by Han.
