17 years of Taare Zameen Par: Aamir Khan Productions drops never-before-seen BTS

Also starring Tisca Chopra, Tanay Chheda, Vipin Sharma, Sachet Engineer and M.K Raina, the film was India’s official entry for the 81st Oscars

Aamir Khan's directorial debut Taare Zameen Par clocked 17 years on Saturday. To celebrate the iconic duo of Aamir’s Nikumbh sir and Darsheel Safary’s Ishaan Awasthi, makers Aamir Khan Productions shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, dropping behind-the-scenes photos from the sets.

Aamir Khan played Ram Shankar Nikumbh, the art teacher in the boarding school where Ishaan (Darsheel) studied.

Aamir was clicked explaining a scene to Darsheel on the sets. The film follows the story of Ishaan, an eight-year-old dyslexic boy, who is sent to boarding school due to poor academics.

Nikumbh Sir, who came to the boarding school as a temporary art teacher, acknowledged Ishaan’s artistic talent and helped the child overcome his reading difficulties.

Kiran Rao, the associate producer of Taare Zameen Par, also assisted Aamir Khan with post-production work.

Taare Zameen Par has won several accolades including three National Film Awards for best film on family welfare, best lyrics (Prasoon Joshi for Maa) and best male playback singer (Shankar Mahadevan for Maa). It was India’s official entry for the 81st Oscars.
