Singer-composer Mohan Kannan will score the music and Abbas Tyrewala will pen the lyrics for actor Chandan Roy Sanyal’s debut directorial The Playback Singer starring Anupriya Goenka and Nidhi Singh.

“I am thrilled to be working on a project that revolves around music — it’s every composer's dream. Chandan Roy Sanyal and Abbas Tyrewala are not only brilliant creative minds but also good friends. I believe our understanding of each other will bring out the best in the film's songs,” said Mohan.

As music will play a big part in the film, produced by Lonestar Films and Chandan Roy Sanyal Motion Pictures, the album tracks consist of different genres including ghazals, romantic ballads and Bhojpuri folk tunes.

Abbas shared his experience of working with both Chandan and Mohan in the past. “Chandan acted in and Mohan scored the music for one of my films, which unfortunately remains unreleased. It will be fun working with them again. Both Chandan and Mohan have a deep understanding and appreciation of music, lyrics, poetry, and the joy of language.”

Chandan, who will also play a key role in the film, said he always wanted to do a romantic musical. “The Playback Singer will bring that musical nostalgia back. This is a story very close to my heart, and I'm excited to bring it to life with such an amazing team of talented artists. The music, in particular, is a crucial character that drives the story, and I'm thrilled with the diverse range of tracks that Mohan and Abbas have created for the film.”

Scheduled to be shot in the latter half of the year, The Playback Singer will chronicle a girl’s journey, showcasing her love for music, her enduring friendships, her love story and the twists of fate that shape her life.
