A turban-clad Akshay Kumar portrays the real-life hero of India’s first coal mine rescue operation in the teaser of his upcoming film Mission Raniganj - The Great Bharat Rescue, unveiled by Pooja Entertainment on Thursday evening.
The 56-second-long teaser takes us to the Raniganj coal field on November 13, 1989, depicting how an ordinary day turns into a nightmare for a group of miners. We see water gushing inside the mine due to heavy rain, trapping the miners underneath the ground. The clip then introduces Akshay Kumar’s character, a man from the Sikh community who comes to the aid of the miners. Although the name of the character remained undisclosed in the teaser, it was previously announced that the star would be playing real-life mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill, who had saved at least 65 miners trapped in a flooded coal mine in West Bengal’s Raniganj in 1989.
We also see several characters of the film, including the family members of the trapped miners and those who were fighting for their lives. The trailer ends with Akshay Kumar uttering “Jo bole so nihaal. Sat sri akal” before emerging from underwater.
