Miley Cyrus released her eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation along with a new single, River, and its music video on March 10.

Endless Summer Vacation is described as Cyrus’s love letter to L.A. and the confidence she’s found since focusing on her mental and physical well-being. The new album has been released only in a select few countries and is already topping the charts on iTunes in 45 countries, including Australia, India, New Zealand and the UK.

While both River and Endless Summer Vacation released on YouTube, a special streaming session of Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions) started streaming on Disney+Hotstar at the same time. In the live stream, Cyrus sang her new songs including the smash-hit Flowers and the multi-Platinum hit The Climb.

River, which happens to be a part of Endless Summer Vacation, is an upbeat pop number with lyrics that compare her partner to a river. Shot completely in monochrome, the music video sees Cyrus performing on the stage and decked up in a halter-neck jumpsuit with high heels.

Earlier, the 30-year-old American singer-songwriter had teased fans with a glimpse of the song. In an Instagram clip shared by Disney+Hotstar on March 8, Cyrus revealed the inspiration behind the single. “It was a time in my life where I was going through just a lot emotionally and personally. All of my songs evolve. They can start as something that was a trouble, like, it just feels like it’s an April shower, it never stops raining and then it started raining down love.”

The Endless Summer Vacation tracklist begins with Flowers and ends with a demo version of the popular song. Jaded, Rose Colored Lenses, Thousand Miles (featuring Brandi Carlile) and Muddy Feet (featuring Sia) are among the 10 songs included in the new album. While Flowers is a perfect revenge song, Jaded is an emotional breakup track with lyrics like, “Isn’t it a shame that it ended like that/Said Goodbye forever but you never unpacked.”

The phrase, “Endless Summer Vacation,” comes up countless times in the third song of the album — Rose Colored Lenses — which literally talks about wearing rose-coloured lenses to stay in love forever.

The album is divided into two sequences – AM and PM – to represent an act, revealed Cyrus ahead of the album release. “The AM to me is representing the morning time, there’s like a buzz and an energy. In the nighttime, it feels like there is a slinky seediness and kind of a grime but a glamour at the same time,” the singer stated.
