Martin Freeman and Jenna Ortega find themselves entangled in a forbidden teacher-student relationship in the Miller’s Girl trailer, dropped by Lionsgate on Wednesday.
Set to the 2017 song Burn It Down by the Indie band Daughter, the two-minute-21-second-long trailer slowly unfolds the Lolita-like plot as Ortega, who plays a teenage schoolgirl, starts a dangerous game of seduction with her teacher, Mr Miller (Freeman), when the latter assigns her with the task of writing a short story.
The video kicks off with Ortega introducing herself as Cairo Sweet to Mr Miller. She immediately impresses the teacher by telling him that she has already read all 12 books on the reading list that he provides her.
The teacher-student relationship takes a complex turn when Ortega submits her story that Freeman finds “inappropriate”. A clash between the two takes place when the teacher threatens to fail the student if she does not rewrite the assignment. Despite Freeman’s best attempts to ignore the provocation, the trailer ends ominously with Ortega having to narrate how it all started between the two.
Also starring Dagmara Domińczyk, Bashir Salahuddin, Christine Adams and Gideon Adlon, Miller’s Girl is written and directed by Jade Halley Bartlett.
Produced by Seth Rogen’s production company Point Grey Pictures, Miller’s Girl is set to premiere first at the Palm Springs International Film Festival 2024 on January 11. The theatrical release of Miller’s Girl is set for January 26, 2024.
