Kate Winslet takes on the role of World War II photographer Lee Miller in Ellen Kuras’ directorial debut Lee, the trailer of which was dropped by the makers of Wednesday.
Backed by Roadside Attractions and Vertical Entertainment, Lee revolves around a model-turned-war photographer for Vogue who courageously captured the harsh realities of World War II.
The trailer highlights Miller’s unwavering determination to expose the truth behind the Nazi regime, despite the challenges faced by female journalists of her time. Josh O'Connor, known for playing Prince Charles in The Crown, portrays Tony in Lee. He is a young journalist interviewing Miller years after the end of the war. Tony asks Miller if she wishes to have recognition for her efforts, to which she responds, “You think I went to war so people would know my name?”
Lee’s screenplay has been penned by Liz Hannah, John Collee, and Marion Hume. The upcoming movie is based on Antony Penrose’s 1988 book The Lives of Lee Miller.
Joining Winslet and Josh in the biopic are Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, Andy Samberg, Noémie Merlant and Alexander Skarsgård, rounding out the cast.
Lee is slated to hit theatres on September 27.
