Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies has earned a spot among the Top 10 globally trending non-English titles on Netflix following its debut on the streaming platform on April 26, the makers announced on Thursday.
“Touching millions of globally! Thank you everyone for this immense love and support Watch #LaapataaLadies on @netflix_in now,” the official handle of Jio Studios wrote on Instagram while sharing the news.
Produced by Aamir Khan, Laapataa Ladies has garnered a whopping 2.2 million views on Netflix during the launch weekend. The film, which stars Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastav, Ravi Kishan and Chhaya Kadam, in pivotal roles, ranked fifth among the non-English films on the global trending list for the April 22-28 period.
Set in 2001, Laapataa Ladies revolves around two newlywed women who unintentionally lose track of their husbands while traveling on a train and subsequently end up in wrong villages. This sets off a series of comedic mishaps as the groom’s family embarks on a quest to find the correct bride.
Released in cinemas on March 1 and still running in cinemas, Laapataa Ladies has so far earned a worldwide gross of Rs 23.6 crore, as per industry data-tracking website Sacnilk.
