John Wick star Keanu Reeves is set to host a Disney+ documentary series, Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story, based on the success of the Brawn GP racing team that went on to win the 2009 Formula 1 World Championship, the streaming platform has announced.

“#EDTVFest Sneak Peek! 🚨 Go behind the scenes of this Formula 1 fairy-tale with the people who were there in 2009 – on the track, in the garage and the boardroom – giving their own thrilling versions of a miraculous year. Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story, fronted by Keanu Reeves is coming to Disney+,” the streamer wrote alongside the first-look pictures on X (formerly Twitter).

The 58-year-old actor can be seen interacting with Brawn F1 team’s racing driver Jenson Button as well as with Formula One managing director Ross Brawn. The documentary will have materials from the F1 archives to provide deeper insights into the achievements of Button and Brawn, who guided the team to success.

Reeves’ docuseries will take viewers through behind-the-scenes footage of the Formula 1 race that took place in 2009. It will be told from the perspective of the drivers as well as the staff who helped make the event a success.

The Brawn F1 team was formed from the remnants of the Honda Racing F1 team, which pulled out of Formula 1 — a high-performance motorsport that involves racing-specialised single-seater cars — due to financial reasons at the end of the 2008 season. Brawn GP team won the championship with only a payout of £1 to its members in 2009.

The Disney+ show is created by Simon Hammerson and directed by Daryl Goodrich, who won the 2022 Broadcast Award for Best Sports Documentary. Reeves, Sean Doyle, and Neil Duncanson are executive producers for the show, while it is produced by North One production.

Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story is expected to arrive on Disney+ later this year.
