Actor Kartik Aaryan tasted sweets for the first time in a year after wrapping up the shoot of Chandu Champion as he had adhered to a yearlong sugar-free diet to prepare for the sports drama film directed by Kabir Khan.

A new video posted by Kartik Wednesday shows the actor taking a big bite of rasmalai given to him by the director to celebrate the shoot wrap. “This RasMalai Tasted Like Victory. Finally eating sugar after a year. After more than a year of intense preparation and 8 months of day-n-night shoots across the globe, today we complete the shooting journey of #ChanduChampion,” the 33-year-old actor wrote alongside the video.

“Poora khilaoge(Will you feed me all of it)?” Kartik asked Kabir as the latter proceeded to feed him a big bite of the sweet. “Bhut guilty feel hoga (I will feel very guilty),” added the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 actor, who had to follow a strict fitness regime for attaining the physical transformation required by his character in the film.

Despite his misgivings, Kartik savoured the sweet as the entire crew cheered for him. The video ends as both Kabir and Kartik warmly embrace each other.

In his Instagram post, Kartik also expressed his admiration for Kabir and acknowledged the challenging journey of Chandu Champion. “And it couldn’t have been sweeter than my fav, Rasmalai - from the Man himself who carved this challenging path for me… you have been a profound inspiration Sir,” he also wrote.

Chandu Champion is based on the extraordinary real-life story of a sportsman and his indomitable spirit. The film also stars Katrina Kaif and Shraddha Kapoor in key roles.

The first look of Chandu Champion was unveiled in August last year. The poster showed Kartik donning a blazer with India written on his chest. He gazed intensely at the camera and a cut mark was prominently visible on his forehead.

Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Chandu Champion is slated to hit theatres on June 14.

On the work front, Kartik was last seen in Sameer Vidwans’s romantic drama film Satyaprem Ki Katha alongside Kiara Advani, Gajraj Rao, Supriya Pathak, Siddharth Randeria, Anuradha Patel and Rajpal Yadav. He will begin filming for Anees Bazmee’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 in March.
