Kamal Haasan’s 1987 crime drama Nayakan is set to re-release in theatres in 4k ahead of the actor’s 69th birthday on November 7.
The Tamil-language film, directed by Mani Ratnam, will hit theatres on November 3, the distributors of the film announced recently, dropping posters of the film on social media. Nayakan will be released in all major cities across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.
Apart from Haasan, the film also features Janagaraj Saranya Ponvannan, Ganesh, Nassar, Kartika and Nizhalgal Ravi, among others. It marked the first collaboration between Mani Ratnam and Haasan. They will once again join forces for the forthcoming film KH234.
Inspired by Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather (1972), Nayakan chronicles the unbelievable transformation of an ordinary slum dweller, Velu Naicker (Kamal Haasan), into an underworld don. It is also believed to be loosely based on the life of the Bombay underworld Don Varadarajan Mudaliar. Nayakan was remade in Hindi in 1988 with the name Dayavan.
This film is known for its brilliant world-building, terrific performances, distinct camera work by PC Sreeram and heart-melting tunes by music composer Ilaiyaraaja.
Haasan is also gearing up for the release of his highly-awaited film Indian 2, and sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD, co-starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone.
