Kalki Koechlin will portray the role of American writer Olivia in Elea Clair and Marine Assaiante’s debut feature film Her Song, the actress announced in a video shared on social media on Friday.
“Hi, my name is Kalki. I am a very famous actress in India. Everybody knows me here. Nobody knows me in France. I have 1 million followers on Instagram, but that still hasn’t got us money to make the film,” says Kalki at the beginning of the video.
The 40-year-old actress then talks about her character in the upcoming film. She describes Olivia as an American writer who studies people to include their ways in her books and believes that everything revolves around her.
Six and Midnight Films, the production banner behind Her Song, recently shared a video to announce that they will be working with American novelist John M. Keller and filmmaker James Ivory. Zach Grenier will also star alongside Kalki in the upcoming film.
Though the storyline has not yet been disclosed by the makers, they shared a video of the cast and crew dropping hints about the plot. In the video, Assaiante says the narrative involves “tiny villagers” during the Second World War, while Kalki adds that it is about cycles and life in general. “It’s about hearing your song,” signs off Clair.
Kalki last appeared in Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti’s coming-of-age buddy drama Kho Gaye Hum Kahan (2023), which also starred Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Adarsh Gourav in key roles.
