Sonakshi Sinha plays a newly married woman who seeks help from Riteish Deshmukh’s ghosthunter to save her husband portrayed from a malevolent spirit in the trailer of Munjya helmer Aditya Sarpotdar’s new horror-comedy Kakuda.
Dropped by ZEE5 on Tuesday, the two-minute-42-second-long trailer begins in the village of Ratodi, where people are haunted by a terrifying ghost named Kakuda. Villagers have two doors in their house — one big and one small. The smaller one acts as the passage for the ghost to enter. After falling in love with Sonakshi, Saqib Salim‘s character marries her. However, on their wedding night, Sunny forgets to keep the door for Kakuda open, which provokes the ghost to curse him.
The tormented ghost is known for placing a curse on the head of the house owner as a punishment. When Saqib starts growing a hump on his back as a result of the curse, Sonakshi’s character seeks help from Riteish’s Victor.
Riteish, with his perfect comedic timing, mocks the ghosts in films who sing and dance — such as Manjulika from Bhool Bhulaiya — before preying on their victims. He also takes a dig at Shraddha Kapoor’s film Stree in which the villagers write on the walls for the vengeful spirit. “People had to write ‘get some milk with you next time’ on the walls,” he says, alluding to the 2018 horror-comedy.
“Agar Mangalvaar, shaam 7:15 baje, darwaza khula nahi rakha toh... Mardon ko Kakuda se koi bachaa nahi payega! The trailer comes out tomorrow,” Sonakshi wrote alongside the trailer on Instagram.
Kakuda is Sonakshi’s second film of this year following Akshay Kumar-Tiger Shroff starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Directed by Munjya helmer Aditya Sarpotdar, the horror-comedy is produced by Ronnie Screwvala. Kakuda is slated to hit ZEE5 on July 12.
