BTS member Jimin released his new single Closer Than This, calling the track a token of his connection with the K-pop band’s fans, known as the ARMY, on Friday.

Dropped by Hybe Labels, the four-minute-24-second-long music video gives a glimpse of the BTS’s musical journey, beginning with Jimin telling his band members that Closer Than This is a “fan song”. In the video, Jimin walks through deserted streets before we see polaroid shots of the band’s other members — Jungkook, Jin, Suga, RM, J-Hope, Jimin and V — practising for their upcoming concerts.

The music video, which garnered 4.5 million views in just a day, also shows Jimin writing songs and recording them at their studio. It contains scenes where the boys celebrate after their shows and have fun with each other.

The rhythmic track gets even more vibrant when Jimin sings the chorus with children. “Let’s sing it all together this song/ For the day we’ll reunite again/ I could never let you go/ Never let you go/ Let’s sing even louder, this song/So we can become one again/I’ll never let you go/ Never let you go,” he sings, promising his fans that they will reunite soon after his enlistment is over.

“We are excited to announce the release of BTS member Jimin’s digital single, Closer Than This,” reads the official statement by the band’s agency BigHit Music. “Closer Than This with its lyrics conveying Jimin’s love and affection for his fans, will bring you hope and warmth.”

Closer Than This is the South Korean singer’s fourth digital single, following the release of Lie in 2016, Serendipity in 2017 and Filter in 2020. It is already topping the iTunes Top Songs chart in the US, Japan, Germany and France along with 85 more countries in less than a day.

Jimin began his mandatory military duties on December 12 along with his fellow band member Jungkook. RM and V had started their enlistment a day before, while Jin had begun serving on December 13, 2022. J-Hope and Suga had started their duties on April 18 and September 22, respectively.
