Alia Bhatt fights against the odds to save her incarcerated brother, played by Vedang Raina, in the first teaser trailer of Vasan Bala’s Jigra, set to a haunting rendition of the iconic brother-sister song Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka.

Dropped by Dharma Productions on Sunday, the two-minute-49-second-long video opens with Alia’s character recounting to one Mr. Bhatia in a bar how she lost both her parents at a young age. She and her younger brother were then taken in by some distant relatives, but her brother had to pay a heavy price for that favour, Alia adds.

Mr. Bhatia jokingly suggests blowing up the prison walls. The following scenes show Alia facing violent threats, suicidal thoughts and numerous other obstacles as she tries to reach her brother, who has limited time left in prison. The tension builds as gunfire erupts and Alia climbs a car wearing a security vest with a massive fire raging in the background.

Vedang appears in handcuffs. He is beaten and tortured by the police. Alia hatches a plan to rescue him, and one of the concluding clips shows her driving a car through the flames. The video ends with the siblings embracing each other.

Actors Aditya Nanda, Yuvraj Vijan and Harssh Singh are also expected to play key roles in the film, first announced in September last year.

Jigra is the third project under Alia’s home banner Eternal Sunshine Productions after Netflix’s 2022 dark comedy Darlings and the 2024 Amazon Prime Video crime-drama series Poacher.

Jigra marks Alia’s first collaboration with director Vasan Bala, known for thrillers like Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota (2018) and Monica, O My Darling (2022).

Alia, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Shaheen Bhatt and Somen Mishra are credited as producers on the upcoming project.

Jigra is slated to hit theatres on October 11. The film was earlier scheduled for release on September 27. However, the release date was pushed to avoid a box-office clash with Telugu star Jr NTR's Devara.
