Jennifer Lopez and Jharrel Jerome will star in William Goldenberg’s upcoming sports biopic Unstoppable, produced by Lopez’s husband Ben Affleck, reveals a series of first-look photos shared by Amazon MGM Studios.
The film focuses on the life of wrestler Anthony Robles (Jerome), who was born with one leg but went on to win a national championship in 2011 while competing for Arizona State University. Lopez portrays Anthony’s mother Judy, while Bobby Cannavale plays his father Rick. Michael Pena takes on the role of coach Bobby Williams and Don Cheadle appears as wrestling coach Shawn Charles.
“The film chronicles Robles’s meteoric rise and how he became a top-tier college wrestler despite being born without his right leg. Overcoming physical limitations and a challenging family life, Robles proved those who underestimated him wrong to become a champion wrestler and a national star,” reads the official synopsis of Unstoppable.
The movie marks Goldenberg’s directorial debut. He had previously won an Academy Award for editing 2013’s Argo.
The biopic, based on Anthony Robles and Austin Murphy’s book Unstoppable: From Underdog to Undefeated: How I Became a Champion, is slated to make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September before being released theatrically in December.
Lopez last starred in the Netflix sci-fi film Atlas. She has Bill Condon’s musical drama Kiss of the Spider Woman in the pipeline.
The actress- singer recently celebrated her 55th birthday with an opulent Bridgerton-themed party, which her husband Ben Affleck seems to have given a miss amidst separation rumours.
