The Avatar (2009) sequel has collected $293.2 million nett from the domestic market in the US while $661.9 million nett came from overseas collections. The numbers could cross the $1 billion mark once Tuesday’s numbers are in.
The visual extravaganza has been receiving positive reviews from all quarters ever since its release. The film has already surpassed Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness to become the third-highest grossing movie of 2022. With the New Year weekend round the corner, James Cameron’s sci-fi adventure could also cross Jurassic World: Dominion ($1 billion) and Top Gun: Maverick ($1.4 billion) in terms of earnings.
In India, Avatar: The Way of Water has been dominating the box office. The film’s collection in India stands at Rs 273 crore nett. Surpassing Avengers: Endgame’s lifetime collection of Rs 365.50 crore nett in India looks like a cakewalk now for the visual drama.
Avatar: The Way of Water opened in India at Rs 40.50 crore. It was the second-biggest opening for a Hollywood film of all time in India. Within three days, the film breached the Rs 100-crore mark. The film joined the Rs 200-crore club in India in eight days.
