After just two weekends in theatres, Inside Out 2 has soared to the top as the highest-grossing movie of the year. The Disney-Pixar animated film has earned USD 724 million worldwide, surpassing Dune: Part Two, which held the previous record with USD 711 million globally.
Inside Out 2 is now on track to become the first film of 2024 to surpass the USD 1 billion mark in collections globally. Released in theatres on June 14, the film has minted USD 355 million in North America and USD 369 million internationally. In comparison, Dune 2 had raked in USD 282 million in the North American market and USD 429 million internationally.
In India, Inside Out 2 has earned Rs 16.9 crore nett so far, according to the industry data-tracking portal Sacnilk. On the opening day, the animated film minted Rs 1.4 crore nett in India, followed by Rs 10.95 crore nett in the first week. The film added another Rs 5.95 crore nett in the second week so far.
Inside Out 2 continues the story from the 2015 original, delving into the teenage years of Riley, the central character, who now grapples with new emotions such as anxiety and envy. The 2015 original had earned USD 858 million worldwide during its theatrical run.
Riding on the success of Inside Out 2, theatres are now banking on upcoming releases like A Quiet Place: Day One (June 28), Despicable Me 4 (July 3), Twisters (July 19), and Deadpool & Wolverine (July 26) to maintain this momentum at the box office.
