Kamal Haasan-starrer Indian 2 raked in Rs 26 crore nett at the Indian box office on its opening day, according to industry data-tracking portal Sacnilk.
Directed by Shankar, the vigilante action drama registered significant earnings from its Tamil version at Rs 17 crore nett, while the Telugu version brought in Rs 7.7 crore nett. The Hindi version contributed Rs 1.2 crore nett to the collection.
Kamal has reprised his role of Senapathy, a former freedom fighter committed to battling corruption, in this sequel to his 1996 action drama Indian. It boasts a star-studded cast including Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Simha, Priya Bhavani Shankar, SJ Suryah and Samuthirakani.
Indian 2’s opening day collection, however, falls short of Kamal’s last release Vikram, which had raked in Rs 28 crore nett on Day 1 during its theatrical run in 2022.
Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar-starrer Sarfira, which also released on the same day as Indian 2, had an average opening day at the domestic box office. The Sudha Kongara Prasad-helmed drama earned Rs 2.4 crore nett in India on Day 1.
Despite the new releases, Prabhas-starrer Kalki 2898 AD continues to perform well at the box office. Also featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, the dystopian sci-fi epic raked in Rs 5.4 crore nett domestically on its third Friday, taking the total collection to Rs 548.75 crore nett.
