The second season of Hoichoi Original mystery thriller series Indu, directed by Abhimanyu Mukherjee, continues to follow new bride Indu in her attempts to uncover the secrets her in-laws are hiding. With Ishaa Saha as Indu, the show holds on to the suspense, packs in a few twists and ends with yet another cliffhanger. Where it falls short of is in threading the incidents together and coming up with answers to questions raised in Season 1.
Indu 2 picks up from where the first season ended — a few days after the wedding reception, with the shocking news of Laboni’s (Manali Manisha Dey) death, which Indu feels is murder. She is determined to get to the root of the strange occurrences happening with her since her wedding day. Her quest for answers comes at a heavy personal cost, though, as Indu’s husband Sougato (Chandraniv Mukhopadhyay) dies under mysterious circumstances.
Everyone is now a suspect and Indu battles it out as a lone warrior with an innocent charm and a quiet confidence. Her brother-in-law Sujato (Suhotra Mukhopadhyay) throws hurdles in her way and their cat-and-mouse game is one of the enjoyable aspects of the show.
Kushi (Payel De) is one of the major players this season and gives away a lot of clues through her occasional outbursts, which helps Indu get closer to solving the mystery. Mimi Dutta and Judhajit Sarkar are also convincing as the conniving brother- and sister-in-law who seem to be hiding secrets of their own.
A major revelation in the last two episodes regarding Kushi’s past hints at deeper and darker secrets in the Dasgupta family. However, the key questions raised in the first season remain unanswered in this instalment as well. We do get a clue about the poisonous dhutro leaf that was found inside the fish that was sent as part of the wedding paraphernalia to Indu’s house. But the mystery central to the show — who killed Laboni and Sougato — still remains unsolved.
The slow pace does not help either. As yet another dead body — this time of Sougato’s assistant — is discovered in this north Kolkata household, in the last episode, the suspense drags on, adding to our frustration. The first season had a tight storyline that made us wait with bated breath for Season 2. Not delivering on those expectations has surely dampened our interest. Let’s hope that Indu 3 will get its act together.
