Actress Hina Khan has used her own hair to make a wig after she shaved her head following her diagnosis with stage 3 breast cancer.
Sharing the reason behind her decision in a social media post on Wednesday, Hina said the wig made from her own hair would help her find comfort during her struggle with the illness.
The actress also posted a video where she is seen wearing the wig and smiling for the lens. “The moment I was diagnosed, I knew I’d lose my hair, I chose to cut it off on my own terms while it was still healthy, long and vibrant. I decided to make a wig of my OWN hair that would bring me comfort during this challenging time. And I must say It was an empowering decision, and I’m so proud of it,” she wrote in her note.
Extending her support to all women who are facing similar challenges, Hina also said that making a wig out of one’s own hair would make them feel at “home” during their struggle. “And I want to send out a special message to all my Women brave hearts out there who are going through similar struggles.. if you resonate with my decision and agree with it ..I suggest you too do the same .. it will make at least one thing much easier and you will feel better.. you will feel home.”
Hina also said that she feels “reunited with her lost hair” whenever she wears the wig. “It feels good, it feels cozy and it feels like home. It’s just a phase, I knew I will have to go through and decided preemptively to Normalise it first for myself and now that I have been using it, I thought it will be a good story to share with all of you,” she added.
The actress thanked fans for their constant support during such a bleak period of her life. “Because you guys have been like a dream…It’s so heartwarming, reassuring and encouraging to see your response wherever I go, whenever I step out, my god so much love and concern is directed towards me,” she went on to write.
“It is so overwhelming to see a stranger’s eyes welling up in concern when they wish me a speedy recovery.. I am just blown away with the positivity you guys send me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I know the world is praying for me. Lekin Phir bhi. Dua please,” she signed off.
Fans flooded the comments section with their love and support for the actress. “Lots and lots of prayers, love and strength ! You are an epitome of inspiration,” one of them wrote. Fashion designer and actress Masaba Gupta commented, “You’re just something else Hina.”
Hina had revealed her diagnosis with stage 3 breast cancer on June 28 through a statement on social media. “Hello Everyone, To address the recent rumour, I want to share some important news with all the Hinaholics and everyone who loves and cares for me. I have been diagnosed with Stage Three Breast Cancer,” she had written in a post.
Hina shot to fame with her role as Akshara in the popular TV serial Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. She is also known for participating in reality shows like Bigg Boss and Khatron Ke Khiladi. She later switched to films and OTT content with projects like Hacked and Damaged 2. She last starred in the Punjabi film Shinda Shinda No Papa alongside Gippy Grewal.
