A curly-haired Sonakshi Sinha simmers with seduction as she breaks into a wild dance on a table in the music video of Tilasmi Bahein, the second track from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming Netflix period drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.
Dropped by the makers on Wednesday, Sonakshi Sinha’s Fareedan attracts male gaze at parties in the two-minute-eight-second-long song video from the Netflix series set in the backdrop of India’s freedom movement. Composed by Bhansali, Tilasmi Bahein is sung by Sharmistha Chatterjee and penned by AM Turaz.
Clad in a shimmery peach sari with silver sequins, Fareeden is a wild spirit who holds a cigarette in one hand and a glass of wine on the other. She wraps her arms around two men and starts crooning the song, which touches upon themes of intense love, desire and longing.
The entire video is recorded in a long shot focused on Sonakshi’s movements and expressions, which is reminiscent of the track Meri Jaan from Bhansali’s 2022 film Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt and Shantanu Maheshwari. While Sonakshi dances her heart away on a center table, the partygoers clad in saris and suits cheer her on.
At the end of the video, Sonakshi’s Fareedan gives a bloodshot look to Aditi Rao Hydari’s Bibbojaan, who keeps watching the former with a troubled expression throughout the song sequence.
Sonakshi shared the music video on Instagram, briefly describing her character from the period drama series. “She moves like magic, welcome to the world of Fareedan,” she wrote.
Marking Bhansali’s OTT debut, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar will follow the stories of love and betrayal experienced by courtesans living in Lahore’s oldest red-light district, Heeramandi. The story explores how the women in Heeramandi found themselves entangled in a constant power struggle with anti-colonial movements on the rise.
Also starring Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha and Sharmin Segal Mehta, Sanjeeda Shaikh and Richa Chadha, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is slated to premiere on Netflix on May 1.
