Hawkeye star Jeremy Renner has joined the cast of Netflix’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the third instalment of the Knives Out franchise starring Daniel Craig, US-based entertainment magazine Deadline reported on Thursday.
Renner is the latest addition to the cast which includes Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Kerry Washington, Josh O’Connor and Glenn Close.
Rian Johnson, who wrote and directed the previous instalments of the Knives Out franchise, is directing the upcoming film. He has also produced the third instalment under the banner of T-Street Productions along with Ram Bergman.
The first Knives Out film follows the renowned detective Benoit Blanc (Craig) while he investigates the death of a wealthy crime novelist Harlan Thrombey. As Blanc interrogates the eccentric and dysfunctional Thrombey family, he uncovers a web of secrets, lies and motives, leading to a surprising twist involving Harlan’s nurse, Marta.
“That’s right, Daniel Craig is back as the suave Southern investigator in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, a new instalment of the whodunnit franchise written and directed by Rian Johnson. Blanc will be unravelling a brand-new murder mystery in an as-yet-undisclosed setting, surrounded by a new colourful cast of suspects,” Netflix wrote on its official blog.
Details about the plot of the upcoming film are unknown.
The second instalment of the thriller series, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, came out in 2022.
Production for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will begin next month, with Netflix planning to distribute it in 2025.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery marks Renner’s first feature film after his recovery from a near-fatal snow plough accident in early 2023. He will be reprising his role in the third season of the Paramount+ series Mayor of Kingstown, slated to premiere on the streamer this weekend.
