American singer-songwriter Halsey opened up about battling a severe illness that required extensive treatment after releasing the first track from her fifth studio album The End on Tuesday.
“I told myself I’m giving myself two more years to be sick. When I’m 30, I’m having a rebirth,” the 29-year-old singer said in a clip in which she can be seen massaging her legs. “I’m not going to be sick. I’m going to look super-hot and have lots of energy. I’m just going to get to redo my 20s and 30s,” she added.
While she didn’t reveal her exact illness, she tagged lupus and leukaemia charities in her post, causing concern about her health.
The next video shows the New Americana singer undergoing her first day of treatment.
Another clip shows Halsey trying to record a song in a studio following her discharge from the hospital.
Halsey broke down in tears in the last video. It documents her entire journey, from getting diagnosed with the illness to starting her treatment and setting on a path of recovery.
“Long story short, I'm Lucky to be alive. short story long, I wrote an album. It begins with The End. Out now,” Halsey captioned the post.
Before revealing her health condition on social media, Halsey had been open about her struggles with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjogren's syndrome and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS).
On Monday, the Colours singer dropped a poster of her new album The End and announced the release of its first song. “I’m releasing the first song off my 5th album tomorrow 6/04 at 9am pt / 12 et. Before the first single comes, I wanted to share this. It means a lot to me and I love it. Let’s try something different this time and start at The End,” she wrote.
The poster gives off retro vibes, featuring a question mark in red resembling a dart board. A monochrome picture of Halsey can be seen framed inside a heart at the bottom of the symbol.
Written and produced by Halsey, the title track from The End is available to stream on Spotify.
