Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has experienced a series of eerie occurrences at an almost 200-year-old hotel in Scotland during the shoot of a new adaptation of Mary Shelley’s horror novel Frankenstein.

Sharing the spooky incidents from the hotel in social media posts, the filmmaker on Thursday revealed that he is staying in the “most haunted room” of the historic 1800s hotel.

One of del Toro’s recent posts from the day detailed that he preferred to stay in the room to experience the presence of something spooky after one of the film’s producers had left it under unsettling circumstances.

“Whilst in Aberdeen, I am staying in an old 1800’s hotel. i am in the Most Haunted room of it- which was vacated this morning by one of our producers,” he wrote, adding “Odd electrical and physical occurrences scared her into leaving asap. Stay tuned- if anything happens I will report.”

On Friday, the Nightmare Alley director reported that while no paranormal events had occurred yet, the “atmosphere in the room is oppressive” and he sensed “something is in that room with me.”

The filmmaker said although he has avoided sleeping in the room to ensure he gets adequate rest for filming, he has been visiting it in the mornings and evenings.

On Thursday, del Toro also revealed that he felt a palpable presence in the room after a day of filming. “There is something angry and territorial there. A shred of rage,” he commented. Alongside his observations, he shared a photo of a peculiar reflection in the mirror and mentioned attempting to capture electronic voice phenomena (EVP) with his phone.

Later, the filmmaker expressed his disappointment over “no sight and sound” but said he felt an “oppressive vibe” in the room. The Hellboy director vowed to return to the room.

The epilogue to Del Toro’s supernatural experience came on Friday when one of his crew members saw someone outside the window.

“Finished the shooting day- and- as an epilogue to the haunted room-- One of our cast had a similar sensation in the room and one of our crew saw someone outside the window... On the second floor. So, there: I went put flat, but the place is worth exploring,” he signed off.

Del Toro’s Frankenstein adaptation for Netflix features Oscar Isaac as the scientist and Jacob Elordi as the creature, with Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz and Felix Kammerer in key roles.
