Our favourite angel and demon are back and ready to cause more heavenly chaos on Earth it seems. Good Omens just dropped the first trailer for Season 2 and yes, we fans are frantic with excitement.
We are not sure how many years have passed in universe since we last saw the prim and fussy angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the grumpy, brazen demon Crowley (David Tennant) after they stopped the Apocalypse in Season 1. But it has been sometime if the first reunion scene of the trailer is anything to go by. Dark things seem to be afoot with Archangel Gabriel (John Hamm) landing on Earth with no recollection of who he is, how he got there, and, it seems, where his pants are. It is up to best friends Aziraphale and Crowley to keep war from breaking out between Heaven and Hell.
The second season promises more of the same chaotic fun we loved so much in season one, which was based on Neil Gaiman and Sir Terry Pratchett’s book Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter. This time there is no book but Gaiman says that it is based on plots that he had discussed with Pratchett for a possible sequel. Gaiman who is also the executive producer and co-showrunner — along with executive producer Douglas Mackinnon, who also returned to direct all six episodes — has co-written the show with John Finnemore.
According to Prime Video, Good Omens 2 explores storylines that go beyond the original source material to “illuminate the ineffable friendship between Aziraphale, a fussy angel and rare-book dealer, and the fast-living demon Crowley”.
“Having been on Earth since The Beginning, and with the Apocalypse thwarted, the duo are getting back to easy living amongst mortals in London’s Soho. That is, until archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) turns up unexpectedly at the door of Aziraphale’s bookshop with no memory of who he is or how he got there. While Crowley is leery as to why the archangel has come to the bookshop, Aziraphale is keen to solve the mystery behind Gabriel’s condition. However, hiding the archangel from both Heaven and Hell quickly disrupts their lives in unforeseen ways. To solve this mystery and thwart Heaven and Hell in the process, the duo will need more than a miracle; they’ll need to once again rely on each other,” reads the description. It is a mystery that takes the audience “before The Beginning, to biblical times, grave robbing in Victorian Edinburgh, the Blitz of 1940s England, all the way through to modern day”.
Fans were surprised when Good Omens announced a second season since the source material was exhausted in season one, but in Gaiman we trust and we cannot wait to see what our favourite angel and demon have up their sleeves.
Good Omens 2 will start streaming on July 28, 2023.
