“MEGALOPOLIS: an epic vision by Francis Ford Coppola. In theatres September 27, 2024,” the official handle of the movie posted on X.

Megalopolis is a Roman epic fable set in a fictional modern America. Adam Driver stars as Cesar, a visionary artist determined to transform The City of New Rome into a utopia, despite resistance from the city’s mayor (Giancarlo Esposito) who prefers maintaining the status quo. Caught between them is Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), the mayor’s daughter and Cesar's love interest, who must navigate her divided loyalties and determine her beliefs about humanity's future.

The film’s star-studded cast also includes Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D.B. Sweeney and Dustin Hoffman.

Coppola expressed his excitement about the release date by penning a note on Instagram. “One rule of business I’ve always followed and prioritised (to my benefit) is to continue working with companies and teams who over time have proven to be good friends as well as great collaborators. This is why I am thrilled to have Adam Fogelson and @lionsgate Studios release ‘Megalopolis,’” he wrote.

“I am confident they will apply the same tender love and care given to ‘Apocalypse Now,’ which is currently in its 45th year of astounding revenue and appreciation,” the filmmaker signed off.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson shared his enthusiasm about the film. “Francis is a legend. For many of us, his gifts to cinema were one of the inspirations to devote our own careers to film. It is a true privilege to work with him, and to bring this incredible, audacious, and utterly unique movie to theatrical audiences,” he said in a statement.
