Season 3 of Four More Shots Please, streaming on Amazon Prime Video, offers high-octane drama with the tried-and-tested stories about love, betrayal, infidelity and professional hurdles as the girl gang reunites.
The four leading ladies — Siddhi Patel (Maanvi Gagroo), Umang Singh (Bani J), Damini Rizvi Roy (Sayani Gupta) and Anjana Menon (Kirti Kulhari) — navigate their way through bigger problems and manage to come to terms with their past mistakes. Here’s what happens in the girl gang’s life in Season 3.
Siddhi’s changing equation with her mother
One of the highlights of this season is how the girls deal with grief. Season 2 of Four More Shots Please ended with the sudden death of Siddhi’s father. This season focuses on Siddhi and her mother Sneha (Simone Singh) coming to terms with their loss and focuses on how society, especially men, try to take advantage of the vulnerability of women in grief.
Siddhi came across as a spoilt brat in the past seasons. We see her turn a corner in Season 3 as she spends more time with her mother in the aftermath of their shared loss and channels her angst through stand-up comedy. Maanvi’s natural charm helps you easily empathise with Siddhi.
Infidelity, thy name is Damini
At the end of Season 2, Damini had suffered a miscarriage. The toll it took is evident in the first few episodes of Season 3 as she is hesitant to get intimate with Jeh (Prateik Babbar). She asks Jeh to move in with her but he is not ready.
On the professional front, Damini isn’t faring any better. Her book gets banned and she is taken off political stories. This is when a young politician, Dhananjay Deshpande (Rohan Mehra), approaches Damini for his election campaign. Damini finally finds a cause that brings her joy but gets involved with Dhananjay. Damini’s impulsive actions and infidelity might come across as bewildering, but Sayani pulls it off with aplomb.
Umang finds closure
After running away from her marriage with Samara Kapoor (Lisa Ray), Umang is hoping to start her own fitness studio. The season begins with Umang taking a short trip to her hometown Ludhiana with her gang to make amends with her family. Her father refuses to accept her because of her sexual orientation. Umang’s mother, though, is appreciative of her.
Meanwhile, Siddhi offers to be her business partner. Umang hires Sean (Jim Sarbh), a hot yoga instructor, and they hit it off. Umang also befriends Meher (Shilpa Shukla), who runs a bakery nearby, and the sparks begin to fly. Unlike the previous seasons, Umang is not just a sidekick. Her character has an arc and Bani does full justice to it.
Anjana is back to square one
Anjana Menon (Kirti Kulhari) is still working with Shashank Bose (Sameer Kochhar) but their professional relationship has taken a hit after the latter’s transgressions in Season 2. This leads to problems at work as clients insist that they collaborate on cases.
On the domestic front, Anjana’s ex-husband Varun Khanna (Neil Bhoopalam) has had a son with his present wife Kavya (Amrita Puri). When Kavya learns about Varun kiss with Anjana, she asks him to leave the house. This forces Varun to share an apartment with Anjana, which takes Anjana back to her unhappy married life with him.
She is desperate to break free and be her old self again, and Kirti makes an impression with her restrained act.
New cast members shine alongside the old ones
Prateik Babbar looks dashing as before as Jeh. His friction with Damini over the little things, like a bean bag, is quite relatable. Rohan Mehra leaves a mark as the young politician. He shares a hot chemistry with Sayani, lighting up the scenes featuring them together.
Lisa Ray’s cameo as the jilted lover seems forced and Jim Sarbh is adorable as Umang’s friend but remains underutilised. Simone Singh’s portrayal of a young widow is spot on and Neil Bhoopalam provides a much-needed comic relief.
