Gol Maal is a classic comedy. I have seen this movie at least a hundred times and still roar laughing till my sides start aching. It is an old comedy movie (1979) directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The main cast includes Amol Palekar as Ramprasad Dashrathprasad Sharma, a CA looking for a job, and Laxman Sharma, his invented fictional twin-brother, who is good-for-nothing, wears fashionable clothes and is Westernised.
Utpal Dutt as Bhavani Shankar, is a widower, entrepreneur and father to Urmila. A man of traditional values, he hates young men wearing modern clothes or being interested in sports. But his weirdest trait is hatred towards men without moustaches for he thinks a man without a moustache is totally characterless.
Bindya Goswami as Bhavani’s daughter Urmila is the exact opposite of her father and takes an immediate liking to Lucky, while Ramprasad is barely noticed by her. (Which is your favourite Bollywood comedy franchise?... September 30)
Dayita Chakraborty
If I were to pick one movie that held me transfixed and had a brilliant script, it would be Delhi Belly. Directed by Abhinay Deo and released in 2011, Delhi Belly is a dark comedy of errors. Three roommates played by Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunaal Roy Kapoor share a shabby, rooftop room in Delhi. Apart from their daily struggles, underpaid jobs, crumbling apartment, they become involved in a mishap in which a stool sample gets switched with a delivery of diamonds. That puts a fearsome goon, played by Vijay Raaz, on their tail. Their subsequent escape and hilarious turn of events make for this amazing story.
There are broken hearts, betrayal, infidelity, costume drama, blackmailing and more. It is a laugh riot like no other.

My favourite Bollywood comedy franchise is Hera Pheri. The stories of this famous Bolly comedy series revolve around the beloved trio of characters — Shyam (Suniel Shetty), Raju (Akshay Kumar) and Babu Bhaiya (Paresh Rawal). I immensely loved both the Hera Pheri movies — Hera Pheri (2000) and its sequel Phir Hera Pheri (2006) — released till date. I’m now waiting eagerly for the long-awaited third instalment of the popular franchise. One hopes that the third part of the hit comedy franchise will be just as hilarious as the first two parts.
