Cate Blanchett plays an acclaimed journalist whose life takes a tumble after she receives a book that exposes a dark secret of her life in the teaser of Apple TV’s limited series Disclaimer.

Dropped by the streamer on Wednesday, the one-minute-10-second-long teaser shows montages from the life of Blanchett’s character. With a close-up shot of Blanchett’s horrified face, a voiceover warns the audience against “narrative and form” as “their power can bring us closer to the truth”. As she reads the recently received book by an unknown author, Blanchett relives the dark experiences she has lived through and is forced to confront the past.

Blanchett’s journalist goes to great lengths to uncover the writer’s true identity before the secret destroys her relationship with her family. Sacha Baron Cohen and Kodi Smit-McPhee play Blanchett’s husband and kid, respectively, in the movie.

The ensemble cast also includes Lesley Manville, Louis Partridge, Leila George and Hoyeon. Indira Varma features as the narrator.

Written and directed by five-time Academy Award winner Alfonso Cuarón, Disclaimer is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Renée Knight. The seven-chapter psychological thriller is slated to hit Apple TV on October 11.

Presented by Apple Studios, Disclaimer is co-produced by Esperanto Filmoj and Anonymous Content.
