Dev is back in the dhuti-panjabi dress code after playing Byomkesh Bakshi, and this time it’s for his next home production, Bagha Jatin, directed by Arun Roy.

The film’s teaser video shows Dev morphing from Jatindranath Mukherjee into the firebrand Bagha Jatin — the one who fought a tiger with his bare hands and played an extraordinary role in India’s freedom struggle.

“Jatindranath Mukherjee is undoubtedly an inspiration for all for his bravery and sacrifice. Bagha Jatin is our Durga Puja bonanza for the audience. It was indeed a daunting task for me to finely portray every shade of this character. Moreover, the decision to present this inspiring story in Hindi will also open doors for millions of viewers across the nation to witness the story of Bagha Jatin,” said Dev.

“The story captures the essence of that particular period of India’s struggle for freedom. Our film aims to entertain as well as highlight the rich culture and history of our country,” said director Arun Roy.

The Bagha Jatin cast includes Sudipta Chakraborty, Samiul Alam and Sreeja Dutta; the film is scheduled for release on October 19.

Victor Banerjee-starrer Raktabeej drops song Gobindo Daant Majena

Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee’s upcoming directorial work Raktabeej, a thriller set around the Burdwan blast of 2014 which marks the return of veteran actor Victor Banerjee, has dropped a surprise dance number. The song Gobindo Daant Majena features Ankush Hazra dancing on stage in what looks like a mela setting.

“This song is very special for us. This is the first time we have worked with Ankush and I must say it was a great experience. Besides, Gobindo Daant Majena has been composed and sung by Surojit Chatterjee, whose last song with us, Rangabati, was a superhit,” said Shiboprosad.

“When I started writing this song, only the hook line came to my mind. When Shibu asked for a song, I pitched it to them. I cannot believe how effortlessly and amazingly they have incorporated this song in their film,” said Surojit.

Starring Victor Banerjee in the lead, Raktabeej is about the homecoming of a man who holds an important portfolio and how an accidental blast in a firecracker unit unveils a greater threat to his life.

The film also stars Abir Chatterjee, Mimi Chakraborty, Anasua Majumdar, Kanchan Mallick, Ambarish Bhattacharya, Satyam Bhattacharya, Debasish Mondal and Devlina Kumar. Raktabeej is slated to release on October 20.
