Deadpool actor Karan Soni to voice-star as Spider-Man India in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse

A sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the animated film will release in theatres on June 2

Actor Karan Soni, known for his appearances in DC’s Deadpool movies as cab driver Dopinder, has been roped in to voice-star as an Indian Spider-Man in the upcoming animated film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, entertainment magazine Deadline reported on Wednesday.

Soni will reportedly voice Pavitr Prabhakar, an alternate universe version of Spider-Man known as Spider-Man India, in the film.

The 34-year-old actor confirmed the news on Wednesday by sharing a screenshot of a news article on Instagram. “Still can’t believe I get to be Spidey!! 🕷️😭🙏🏾,” he wrote.

Produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel Entertainment, Across the Spider-Verse is the sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The 2018 film grossed over $384M worldwide and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2019.

Soni joins a voice ensemble led by Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The voice-star cast for the film also includes Oscar Isaac, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Issa Rae, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham, Jason Schwartzman and Daniel Kaluuya.

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Justin K. Thompson and Kemp Powers, Across the Spider-Verse will hit the theatres on June 2.
